You wake up in your spacious apartment to the sound of birds chirping outside and sunlight streaming in through large windows. Your apartment (like most of the apartments at The Montebello) has a balcony and incredible views of the Sandia Mountains. You also have a full kitchen, so you take your coffee outside and enjoy some fresh air.

After your coffee and some quiet moments of reflection, you head down to the restaurant-style dining room to get the fun started. You’re seated by a server at a table with your friends, and given an extensive menu of always-available dishes, plus daily specials. Chef Chollie is incredibly passionate about her food, and you can taste the love in everything she makes.

Once you’ve finished a great meal, it’s time to get your daily workout in. Most of the residents here are pretty active, so The Montebello offers group fitness classes every day, often more than one to choose from. The gym is also beautiful, and includes all the fitness equipment you need to keep you feeling your best.
With your workout checked off for the day, you’re ready to have some fun. You and your dog head out to the dog park, where your pup can run and play off-leash. You can take a little breather on one of the benches under the shaded gazebo and chat with fellow pet parents. If you’re feeling a little more active, the dog park also has walking paths so you can walk and talk.

Intellectual Activities, Because It’s Never Too Late to Learn Something New
Once your furry friend has had their fun, you’re ready to jump into one of The Montebello’s many daily activities. At least once a week, you go on an outing to museums, shopping centers, parks, and other local attractions. Of course, there’s also the movie theater, game rooms, the art room, and the bistro, where you can sit and chat. Margarita Monday, Sunday brunch, and themed dinners make every day exciting.
The Montebello also regularly hosts educational classes and lectures to support lifelong learning. Today, you’re excited to attend a music class, and then maybe play Mexican Train with your group of friends.

You and your friends enjoy the outdoors, so you have a light lunch and then head outside. There are walking paths and benches to enjoy those fantastic mountain views, and a shaded patio with tables and chairs. The gardening club has raised beds where they grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs. But your favorite outdoor spot is the “secret garden”, a little enclosed courtyard that feels like a magical fairy garden. When it’s too hot or cold to be outside, the third-floor solarium gives you the beauty of nature–with the magic of temperature control.

After an exciting day spent laughing, learning, chatting, and playing games with friends, it’s time for dinner. You are so grateful for Chef Chollie’s warmth and dedication. She’s always willing to accommodate any special dietary needs you might have, and she’ll move heaven and earth for her residents. She is also very creative with her specials, including a catch of the day and weekly surf n’ turf dinners. But you just can’t resist your favorite meal–the green chile cheeseburger. After all, this is New Mexico!
While the food is always amazing, the landscaping is legendary, and the decor is warm and inviting, it’s the people that really make The Montebello on Academy special. With staff members who have been here more than thirty years, you really benefit from The Montebello’s experience. As a 40+ year old community, they know what works and what doesn’t. So all you have to do is relax, and enjoy life!

The building has established history, and was built well, but it has also been recently updated with new lighting and security features. Our experienced maintenance and housekeeping team keep our building impeccably clean and well-maintained. And, the Montebello offers month-to-month contracts, so you have the flexibility to try something new without a huge up-front cost. Plus, with both independent living and assisted living, you can age in place–even if you and your spouse have different needs.
