When you’re looking for assisted living in Albuquerque, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by so many options. But just like you, each community is unique and different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to assisted living. So what sets The Montebello on Academy apart?
If you’re looking for a warm, friendly community with lots of experience and tons of fun, The Montebello on Academy might be the right choice for you. With a long-standing reputation, beautiful grounds, and respectful, personal support, life at The Montebello is about more than just care. Here’s what makes this assisted living community different from the rest.
A Tough-to-Beat Location in Albuquerque
Seniors and their families love that The Montebello is located in one of the best parts of Albuquerque. Tucked in a quiet residential neighborhood in the Northeast Heights, The Montebello on Academy Assisted Living sits right across from the Tanoan golf course, with sweeping views of the Sandia Mountains. This location is close to upscale shopping and dining, and great medical clinics, but it still feels very peaceful. Knowing their loved ones are in a safe, established area in Albuquerque gives our assisted living residents’ loved ones a lot of peace of mind.

A Respectful, Personal Approach to Assisted Living
Some assisted living communities are so large, you might worry your loved one will get lost in the shuffle. That won’t be a problem here! The Montebello has just 35 assisted living apartments, which means our staff really do know each and every resident. They know each senior’s history, individual needs, preferences, and opinions. So, assisted living feels really personal and intimate. Nobody is left behind, no one is alone in their rooms. Like a big family, residents at The Montebello feel seen, loved, and cared for as individuals.
Designed for Life Beyond the Apartment
Some seniors worry that moving to an assisted living apartment in Albuquerque will mean too much downsizing, especially if they’re used to a large single family home. While senior living apartments themselves typically aren’t as spacious as a large home, at The Montebello, your apartment isn’t your living space–the whole community is! And when the whole community is your home, you’ll probably actually have far more space than you’ve ever had before.
Everyone needs peace and quiet sometimes, and The Montebello’s apartments definitely give your loved one privacy and their own space. But an active social life with tons of activities (and no loneliness or isolation) is one of the main benefits of assisted living communities. Assisted living residents at The Montebello aren’t just left alone in their rooms. Smaller living spaces encourage residents to spend more time with friends in community areas, like the restaurant-style dining room, landscaped outdoor courtyards and gardens, gym, movie theater, third-floor solarium (with incredible views of the Sandias), art room, and coffee bar. Plus, there are tons of group outings where you can spend time outside of the community, too.
An Active, Social, and Engaging Lifestyle
Assisted living at The Montebello is seriously fun. When you think of assisted living, some seniors and their families picture a “care facility” or “old folks’ home”–but The Montebello couldn’t be more different. There is a full daily calendar of creative, exciting activities all day long, every single day. This includes:
- Multiple fitness classes every day
- Weekly outings to parks, museums, restaurants, and shopping destinations
- Educational classes–learn to speak Spanish, learn more about music and art, and much more
- Resident-led special interest clubs to help you find your people
- The popular classics, like bingo and blackjack
There’s so much more–check out The Montebello’s Facebook page to see what they’re up to today. A Resident Ambassador program welcomes new residents, shows them around, introduces them to new friends, and helps them settle in. And when being seated in the restaurant-style dining room, your loved one will always be seated with a friend. No one eats alone. This warm, creative, active, and social lifestyle really sets The Montebello apart from other assisted living communities in Albuquerque.

Dining that Brings People Together
At The Montebello, dining is all about the experience. The dining room is elegant, and the service is top-notch, just like you’d expect from any great restaurant. The meals are also truly excellent–as one staff member put it, you can taste the love. There are daily specials, including a “catch of the day” and Chef Chollie’s famous green chile cheeseburger, as well as a generous always-available menu with all of your loved one’s New Mexican favorites. Food really brings people together, and The Montebello takes advantage of that by making meals another fun, social experience. Themed events like Margarita Monday, Thursday wine dinners, and weekly surf n’ turf keeps things interesting–not to mention the all-out holiday celebrations.
The chef and kitchen staff will also go above and beyond to accommodate any special requests, diets, or restrictions, so your loved one will be able to enjoy great food and also feel their best.

Albuquerque Outdoor Living at its Best
Everybody knows The Montebello for the beautifully kept, mature outdoor landscaping. You’ve seen it when you drive by, but there’s even more than meets the eye. There are incredible views of the Sandia Mountains from all over the community–both indoors and out. A large leash-free dog park also makes The Montebello one of the most pet-friendly assisted living communities in Albuquerque. There is a walking path around the dog park, as well as gazebos where you can rest in the shade.
Seniors at The Montebello really take advantage of the generous outdoor spaces, with a resident-led walking group, and a gardening group who grow their own flowers, veggies, and herbs in raised beds. They also love what we call the “secret garden,” a private, secluded courtyard complete with a fairy garden.

Stability and Experience You Can Feel
When your loved one needs assisted living, you want to know you’ll be able to trust the people caring for them. Families trust The Montebello because after over 40 years providing assisted living in Albuquerque, they’ve figured out what works and what doesn’t. Many of the staff have been with this community for decades, which means your loved one will receive expert, experienced care by people who love what they do.
We know the best recommendations come from families themselves, so here’s what Marty had to say in a recent Google review:
“We couldn’t be happier with the care and support our family has experienced! My wife’s grandmother lives in this community, and from day one, the staff has treated her like family. It gives us so much peace of mind knowing she is safe, comfortable, and truly cared for.
The team is incredibly attentive, kind, and patient—always going the extra mile to make sure residents feel valued and respected. The building is clean, welcoming, and full of life, with activities that keep everyone engaged and connected. Every time myself or my daughters visit, we’re greeted with smiles, and it’s clear how much the staff genuinely care about the residents.
We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful community and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place where their loved one will be treated with dignity and compassion.”
