You might still be wondering…
Can we afford The Ironwood?
Many families are surprised that the monthly cost compares well to staying at home once it all adds up. The rate covers the apartment, three chef-prepared meals a day, all utilities, Wi-Fi and basic cable, weekly housekeeping, and a full calendar of activities—things otherwise paid for separately. We believe in full transparency, so we'll walk you through exactly what's included.
How does pricing for care work?
Care here is personalized to each person rather than one-size-fits-all. The monthly rate covers the apartment and daily essentials, and any additional care is based on an individual assessment of what each person actually needs. Our team will sit down and explain it clearly, so there are no surprises.
How's the food?
Our executive chef has spent more than 14 years working her way up from server to running the kitchen, and it shows in the care she puts into every meal. There are three chef-prepared meals a day, a different special at each one, and an always-available menu for familiar favorites. She loves variety—one day's special might be something comforting, the next something new like butter chicken (also comforting!)—and she's known to come out of the kitchen to ask how everything tasted. She even hosts hands-on cooking demonstrations, like making pasta from scratch.
We only need a little help right now—is The Ironwood the right fit?
It can be. The Ironwood is an assisted living community with custom levels of support, so it's easy to start with just a little help and add more over time. Additionally, if memory care is ever needed, our dedicated neighborhood is right here—no need to leave a community that already feels like home.
What happens as needs change?
Because The Ironwood is small, the team doesn't just know people by name—they know their routines, their moods, and what's normal for them. So when something shifts, like someone staying in their room more than usual or eating a little less, it gets noticed—by the dining staff and housekeepers as much as the caregivers. From there, care is reviewed and adjusted to keep pace.
What kinds of activities and events do you offer?
There's a full calendar every week—daily exercise and chair-fitness classes, outings, shopping trips, and special events—and because everything's gathered around the central atrium, it's all easy to reach, with no long hallways or far-off corners. The life enrichment team builds it all around what people here actually enjoy, with the occasional delightful surprise (a recent favorite: a visiting miniature horse).
Do you have Memory Care?
Yes. Our Memory Care neighborhood is secure, comfortable, and designed to keep people engaged. Every suite is fully private with its own bathroom—no shared or companion rooms—which is often a real comfort for families. A dedicated team leads daily activities, and memory care community members enjoy the same chef-prepared meals as everyone else. There's also a private courtyard and a family living room, so visits feel relaxed and at home.
Can you keep your car?
Absolutely. There's parking on-site. Many community members keep their car, and for those who'd rather leave the driving to us, there are weekly shuttle excursions and private transportation.
How do you help with such a big decision?
It's an emotional choice, and we never rush it. Our Family Advisor sits down with you in a relaxed, unhurried setting to listen and answer questions, with no pressure either way. Here's what families tell us most often: the worry they carried beforehand tends to fade once they see their loved one settled, engaged, and genuinely happy here.
What helps new community members feel at home?
The warmth does a lot of the work—staff make a point of getting to know each new neighbor, and the people who live here are quick to say hello and pull newcomers into the day. Our Family Advisor stays close through the move, helping with both the practical details and the emotional ones. Most people are surprised by how quickly the place starts to feel like home.
What makes The Ironwood different from other communities nearby?
A few things. The community sits right at the base of Pusch Ridge, so it's easy to stay close to the Oro Valley you know—familiar shops, restaurants, and longtime doctors. The apartments are larger than most you'll find in assisted living, with full-size refrigerators and in-unit laundry that are rare for this kind of community. Plus, as a small, boutique community, The Ironwood has a warmth and familiarity that visitors mention the moment they walk in.
The care is full circle here.
The Stellar Living Foundation was created to make generosity a shared experience. Community members, team members, community partners, leadership, and owners all contribute to the circle of care. Whether it’s supporting a staff member through a crisis, helping a community member's grandchild go to college, or giving back to local organizations, the Foundation is how we lift each other up.
