You might still be wondering…
Can we afford The Montebello on Academy Independent & Assisted Living in Albuquerque, NM?
Families are often surprised to find that our monthly rates are comparable to what they already spend to remain at home—especially when you add in the costs of groceries, dining out, utilities, housekeeping, yard care, transportation, entertainment, and home maintenance.
At The Montebello, all of those expenses are rolled into one predictable monthly rate, with chef-prepared meals, engaging activities, and a safe, well-maintained environment included.
How do community members get around outside the community?
Many of our neighbors still drive their own cars, and parking is available on site. For those who prefer not to drive, The Montebello provides transportation for scheduled medical visits, weekly shopping trips, and group outings to restaurants, museums, and local attractions. Private transportation can also be arranged as needed.
How’s the food?
Ask anyone at The Montebello and they’ll tell you—mealtimes are something to look forward to. Chef Cholli and her team cook with both skill and heart, and you can taste the difference.
Each day brings three featured entrées plus a full “Always Available” menu, so there’s always plenty of choice. Community favorites include the green chile cheeseburger, Sunday brunch with mimosas, and Charlie's weekly surf-and-turf dinner. Margarita Mondays and other themed meals add a festive touch, making dining here about more than just food—it’s about flavor, fun, and sharing the table together.
What makes your team different?
Stability. Many of our team members have been here 20 or even 30 years, which creates trust, familiarity, and a true sense of home. Families often say they feel the difference the moment they walk in—The Montebello is warm and welcoming because the people serving here are deeply invested in this community.
What is the social life like?
The Montebello is known for its lively activity calendar, offering 40–50 events every week. There’s something for everyone—fitness classes, lectures, card games, art, and weekly outings around Albuquerque. But beyond the scheduled events, it’s the everyday connections that make life here special: neighbors chatting over coffee in the bistro, gardening together in raised beds, or enjoying the mountain views from the solarium.
New neighbors are welcomed through our ambassador program, so there’s always a friendly face to sit with or someone to invite you along.
Is The Montebello pet-friendly?
Yes! The Montebello is one of the only senior living communities in Albuquerque with its own dedicated, fenced dog park. Neighbors love being able to let their dogs run freely and safely while gathering at the shaded seating area to socialize. Pets aren’t just allowed here—they’re part of what makes our community feel like home.
How safe and secure is the community?
The Montebello is located in Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights, one of the city’s most desirable and secure neighborhoods. Inside the community, peace of mind comes from thoughtful safeguards: apartments include key fob access and an emergency call system, with team members available around the clock. Beyond safety, our staff are here to help with day-to-day needs—whether that’s responding to a call, assisting with personal care, or simply checking in to make sure you feel comfortable and supported.
Is The Montebello the right fit for couples?
Yes. Many couples call Montebello home, and our combination of Independent and Assisted Living makes it possible for partners with different needs to stay together. Families tell us that peace of mind—knowing both spouses can be supported under one roof—was a big reason they chose us.
Can I age in place at The Montebello?
Absolutely. Many people move in while they’re active and independent, knowing they can stay even if their needs change. Independent Living and Assisted Living are both available here, so support can be added gradually without having to leave the community you already know and love.
What draws people to The Montebello over other assisted living communities in Albuquerque?
Location and legacy. Set in Albuquerque's Northeast Heights, boasting sweeping views of the Sandia Mountains and set right across from the Tanoan Golf Course, the setting is both beautiful and convenient. But what really sets us apart is history: since 1986, The Montebello has been a trusted choice for families. Our long-tenured team and established reputation give people confidence they won’t always find in newer communities.
The care is full circle here.
The Stellar Living Foundation was created to make generosity a shared experience. Community members, team members, community partners, leadership, and owners all contribute to the circle of care. Whether it’s supporting a staff member through a crisis, helping a community member's grandchild go to college, or giving back to local organizations, the Foundation is how we lift each other up.
I’m Amy Dimas, Executive Director at The Montebello on Academy.
I’ve been part of this community for nearly a decade, and there’s a warmth here that’s unlike anywhere else I’ve worked.
Many of our team members have been here 20 or even 30 years, and that kind of stability creates a sense of home you can feel the moment you walk in. The Montebello is a place where people know each other, look out for one another, and share life in meaningful ways. I’d love to meet you, hear your story, and help you see if this could be the right fit.
